Linksfield socks pattern was inspired by memories of early years school days and how each year, the summer term was signified by change in uniform to lighter clothing. I remember that this also usually meant changing our socks from the usual plain ribbed patterns to more fancy lace ones to go with the summer dresses.

These socks were invariably always white in colour at the start of term but very quickly changed colour through child play and washing. Now I am in wonderment about the appropriateness of white for children’s socks. Linksfield socks, named after my senior school, celebrate these childhood memories with its knitted ladders and diamonds lace pattern. But rather than just for summer, they can be worn all year round worn and styled as you wish.

Linksfield socks have front and back panels featuring a diamond lace pattern and side ladders lace pattern. The socks knitted in fingering weight Amble yarn from The Fibre Co. have a traditional heel- flap and gusset heels and are knit cuff-down, starting with a 2x1 rib. Separate charts and instructions are written for each size to make it easier to follow the pattern.

Linksfield was created as a part of the Fibre Company’s Yarn support for independent designers.
